Return & Refund Policy
Thank you for shopping at Perry's Mart. Because our business specializes in unique, vintage, antique, and secondhand goods, our return and refund policy reflects the one-of-a-kind nature of pre-owned merchandise while fully upholding our obligations under New Zealand consumer law.
1. Nature of Used & Vintage Goods
Unless explicitly marked as "Brand New", all items sold through Perry's Mart are pre-owned, antique, or vintage. As such, items exhibit character, patina, surface wear, or minor imperfections consistent with their age, prior use, and price point. We strive to provide clear descriptions, dimensions, and multiple high-resolution photos for all listings.
We take care to disclose known flaws, cosmetic imperfections, and previous repairs. Under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 (CGA), customers are not entitled to a return, repair, or refund for any defect, wear, or cosmetic characteristic that was pointed out, photographed, or reasonably discernible prior to purchase.
2. Change of Mind Policy
In accordance with New Zealand consumer law, we do not offer returns, refunds, or exchanges for "change of mind", buyer's remorse, or incorrect choice.
This includes situations where:
- An item does not fit through doorways, hallways, stairwells, or into your designated room.
- The colour, style, or finish does not match your existing furniture or home décor.
- You decided you no longer require the item or found a similar alternative elsewhere.
We strongly encourage all prospective buyers to inspect measurements and photos carefully, contact us with any questions before purchasing, or visit our Masterton shop by appointment to inspect pieces in person.
3. Statutory Consumer Rights & Remedies (CGA)
Nothing in this policy limits your statutory rights under the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986. We stand behind our legal obligations if an item has a major undisclosed defect, is unsafe, fails its essential function, or differs substantially from its listed description.
Remedy Procedures Under the CGA:
- Minor Faults: If an item develops or possesses an undisclosed minor fault that can be fixed, Perry's Mart reserves the right to repair the item free of charge within a reasonable timeframe. If a prompt repair is not practical, we will offer a replacement (where possible) or a full refund.
- Major Faults or Significant Misrepresentation: If an item possesses a failure of a substantial character (meaning a reasonable customer would not have purchased it had they known), cannot be safely repaired, or differs substantially from its description, you have the right to reject the item and receive a full refund to your original payment method.
4. Return Freight & Transport
- In-Store Collections: If you collected the item in person from our Masterton shop, you are responsible for returning the item to our premises for inspection and assessment.
- Delivered Goods: If an item was delivered via a carrier or freight company arranged directly by Perry's Mart and suffers from transit damage or a confirmed CGA fault, we will arrange and cover reasonable return transport costs. Please contact us before arranging any return freight.
5. How to Request an Assessment
If you believe your purchase has an undisclosed defect or has been damaged in transit:
- Contact us within 7 days of delivery or collection.
- Provide your receipt or order reference, clear photographs of the problem, and a brief description of the issue.
- Items approved for return must be returned in the exact condition they were received.
Approved refunds are processed back to the original method of payment (Credit Card, Shopify Payments, or Direct Bank Transfer) within 3–5 business days following physical receipt and verification at our shop.
